About the Author

Helen Kgobane

Helen Kgobane is a reading coach. Her focus is to train teachers in effective methodologies for teaching learners how to read. She has also developed a Setswana phonics programme for foundation phase and written stories for Big Books used for shared reading in the foundation phase. She wrote an anthology of short stories in Setswana for foundation phase learners.

She says that stories are a fun and multifaceted strategy of teaching learners how to read with understanding. They provide learners with a variety of language structures and enrich their general knowledge. The more interesting story books schools have, the more efficient learners will become in reading.
