In the 2025 edition of our Oxford maths magazine, we explore a wide range of topics – from how to recognise and become an expert teacher (page 4), to how professional development can benefit lecturers at Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges (page 14).
Diversity and inclusion are often discussed in the media and on social platforms, but how do we move beyond surface-level gestures? On page 13, we delve into what authentic diversity and inclusion looks like in our classrooms, teaching materials, and the broader impact they can have.
A deep understanding of mathematical concepts is a key challenge for many learners. It will remain a problem until we find and implement meaningful solutions. We look at the underlying issues and possible solutions to the problem in the article on page 7.
Over the past few years, Oxford has proudly partnered with industry leaders to offer top-quality resources in especially Mathematics, and Coding and Robotics. This time, we spotlight Reflective and MTN (page 10), and we encourage educators to explore and share these valuable tools.
For Foundation Phase classrooms, we’re excited to introduce a digital front-of-class product designed to support integrated teaching (page 11). Our inspirational story comes from a young woman in STEM. She takes us on her maths journey (page 12) and encourages learners to never give up.
And finally, don’t miss our centre spread! It features a pullout grid for unplugged Coding and Robotics challenges. We’ve included two to get you started, and we hope you’ll inspire your learners to create their own advanced challenges too.
We hope this third edition of Sum It Up will both inspire and inform, as we all work together to transform lives through education.
